Posh Pads predominately offer student housing in Southampton, having started offering high quality house shares from 1992. Locations of our Southampton student accommodation are based on proximity to University campuses, local amenities, shopping and, not to forget, nightlife bars and restaurants. Whether you are studying at the University of Southampton or Southampton Solent University Posh Pads have a property to suit.

During your first year, most tenants tend to live in University provided student halls which are purpose built to care for students. Halls provide tend to provide accommodation for 30 – 42 weeks of the year asking students to vacate and return between each semester.

Uni link offer a student orientated bus service in Southampton used to connect students living throughout the city with their University. Halls on Wessex Lane and Archers Road have a bus direct link to University, allowing tenants to easily attend both Avenue and Highfield University of Southampton campuses.

Throughout a student’s second and third year, tenants tend to seek Southampton house shares in the private sector. Posh Pads offer student accommodation on a yearly basis, allowing tenants to reside or leave their belongings in the property throughout each semester break.

When purchasing student houses in Southampton, Posh Pads take care to ensure they are desirable. Each property is selected, ideally being a characterful period property, reasonable sized double bedrooms, a garden suited to sharing for the summer and free available parking (where possible) in sought after locations.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHAMPTON STUDENTS

First year students at Southampton University mostly live in halls of residence based in three locations: Glen Eyre Road, Swaythling or Archers Road.

In the second year, students look to live in the residential areas within cycling distance of the Highfield and Avenue campuses. These areas are Highfield, Portswood, Inner Avenue and Polygon. Posh Pads offers accommodation in all of the best-located streets in these areas.

Highfield

Students living in Highfield have a short walk to the main campus University of Southampton campus, the Hartley Library and Boldrewood. The shopping areas of Portswood and the nightlife of Bevois Valley are reached in ten to fifteen minute on foot and the Avenue Campus is a ten minute walk away.

Many houses in Highfield are semi-detached properties built in the 1930s and generally accommodate 4 or 5 students per property. There are exceptions, but larger houses are less commonly found than in Portswood. Roughly 20% of Southampton University students live in Highfield.

Portswood

Portswood is the most popular area in which to live for and 60% of students are residents. Portswood High Street offers a host of shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, Waitrose and Blockbuster. The Highfield campus is a twenty minute walk from Portswood, while a five to walk in the opposite direction takes one to the bars and clubs of Bevois Valley. The Avenue Campus is ten minutes away on foot.

The houses in Portswood are mainly period Victorian properties and come in all shapes and sizes. There are terraced cottages for two or three people all the way up to large three-storey houses for up to nine people.

Inner Avenue

The Inner Avenue is just south of Portswood and enjoys all its benefits. It is a short walk to Bevois Valley and the Tesco garage on Lodge Road. The centre of Southampton can be reached in twenty minutes on foot, while a short bus ride up the Avenue takes one up to the Highfield campus.

The Inner Avenue properties tend to be medium-sized Victorian terraced properties with bags of character. Most of these houses are let to three, four or five, or occasionally six students.

Most Popular Roads: Padwell Road, Middle Street, Clausentum Road, Methuen Street

Polygon

Polygon is on the edge of the city centre and a very popular area to live for those who have spent their first year in the Archers Road halls and have discovered the great advantages of living a short walk to the city centre. From Polygon there is a ten minute bus ride to the Highfield campus, or a fifteen minute walk to the Avenue Campus. All the entertainment of Bedford Place is on the doorstep and the shopping and amenities of the city centre are all within walking distance.

The houses in Polygon are mostly Victorian and Edwardian properties and for the most part accommodate from four to eight students. Polygon is home to 15% of Southampton University students.

SOLENT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

First year students at Solent University are mostly based halls of residence based in two locations: the Kimber, Hamwic, Chantry and Deanery halls or the collection of halls known as Lucia Foster Welch.

Students at Solent University in their second year look to live within walking distance of the Solent University Campus. The preferred areas are Polygon, the Inner Avenue and the City centre. Posh Pads offers accommodation in all the most desirable streets in these areas.

Polygon

Polygon is on the edge of the city centre and a very popular area to live for those who have spent their first year in the Solent University halls and have discovered the advantages of living near to town. From Polygon there is a five to ten minute walk to the Solent University Campus. All the entertainment of Bedford Place is on the doorstep and the shopping and amenities of the city centre are all within walking distance.

The houses in Polygon are mostly Victorian and Edwardian properties and for the most part accommodate from four to eight students. Polygon is home to 70% of Solent University students.

Inner Avenue

The Inner Avenue is a characterful area just to the north of Polygon and is a ten minute walk to the Solent University campus. It is only a few minutes walk to the bars and restaurants of Bedford Place and has the bonus of also being a few minutes walk to the attractions of Bevois Valley favoured by Southampton University students. The centre of Southampton can be reached in fifteen minutes on foot or by a short bus ride.

The Inner Avenue properties tend to be medium-sized Victorian terraced properties with bags of character. Most of these houses are let to three, four or five, or occasionally six students. About 20% of Solent University students live in the Inner Avenue.

City Centre

After living in the Solent University halls, living in the vicinity of the city centre offers great convenience with quick access to West Quay, the Quays sports complex and the best of Southampton’s bars and restaurants. Wherever you live in town, you will never be more than a ten minute walk to the Solent University campus.

There is a mixture of period Georgian and new-build houses in the city centre which house between four and six students.
